Golden West Apprentice, Paul O’Brien is stepping into a brighter future by commencing his apprenticeship through Golden West Employment Solutions as a Butcher earlier this year. Paul is hosted to Flicky’s Meats in Cloncurry.
Being able to gain a trade qualification while still being able to support himself was one of the main reasons why Paul decided to commence an apprenticeship. “I have always wanted to become a butcher so when the opportunity came up to undertake one thorough Golden West I took it. It’s been great to learn the trade and get paid for it at the same time.” Paul said.
Paul believes that by undertaking an apprenticeship through Golden West he is provided with additional support. “Golden West are very helpful they take care of all my paperwork and visit my regularly to ensure my training is on track.”
Paul’s Host Supervisor Brain Heslin says, “It has been great to see Paul’s confidence grow as he progresses through his apprenticeship, he now has the confidence to present and explain different cuts of meat to customers.” Brain believes, “By taking on an apprentice I am able to train Paul to suit my business needs.”
