As the Maranoa Hospitality Skills Initiative pilot program draws to a close, the support from the Roma Hospitality Industry has been overwhelming, with many participants already securing employment.
“It is pleasing to report that nine participants have successfully completed the program and gained very useful hospitality skills such as serving food and beverages to customers, responsible service of alcohol and organising and preparing food” said Aiva Reisz, Program Coordinator from Golden West Apprenticeships.
The initiative developed by Golden West Apprenticeships, in partnership with the Southern Queensland Institute of Tafe, Roma Campus, aimed to alleviate the labour and skill shortage currently seen by the Maranoa hospitality industry, by providing 150 hours of training to jobseekers.
“The program has been a great success, some participants have already secured employment and others have been given the opportunity to showcase their skills at the Surat Basin Conference” said Aiva. “While many hospitality businesses are still suffering from staff shortages, this influx of skilled hospitality labour will go a long way to relieve many restaurants, cafes and hotels of their labour shortage”.
