Seaton’s got it made as a local plumbing apprentice

With many family and friends in the plumbing industry, becoming a school-based apprentice was the best career decision local apprentice, Seaton Hansen says he has made.

Seaton, who took on a school-based apprenticeship in 2016 while completing grade 12 at the Blackall State School said he was thrilled when the apprenticeship opportunity presented itself. “Golden West Apprenticeships and Capricornia Plumbing had an opening for a school-based apprentice and I was lucky to be given an opportunity to try plumbing” said Seaton. “After finishing school, the apprenticeship continued as full-time”.
Working in the Central West, Seaton loves everything about his plumbing apprenticeship. “Every day is different. Sometimes it can be roofing, the next day it can be maintenance, the following day can be setting up drainage systems”.
Seaton believe that every school student should consider a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship. “Being a school-based apprentice was a great outlet for me. I didn’t really enjoy being stuck in the classroom, but I got my school work done knowing that I could look forward to going to my apprenticeship each week”.
“The apprenticeship has taught me to work as part of a team. I have also been responsible at times for completing job on my own which has developed my skills and confidence. A personal gain for me this year was buying a brand new Hilux”.
Seaton is now in the third stage of his apprenticeship and has just under 20 months until he completes and becomes a fully qualified plumber, who will have a range of experience in plumbing and drainage.
