Former Roma Echidna shines in Origin’s apprenticeship program
Roma’s Regan Tucker was a flyer on the rugby field and has continued his quick pace with his apprenticeship training, completing his fitting and turning apprenticeship with Origin Energy eight months ahead of schedule.
The former-Roma Echidna Rugby Union Football Club winger commenced his apprenticeship in January 2021 through Golden West Apprenticeships, training initially at Origin’s Reedy Creek Gas Field before transferring to the Peat Gas Fields.
Origin, as upstream operator of Australia Pacific LNG, manages the operation of the natural gas resources across the Bowen and Surat basins, and delivery of gas to feed the domestic market and the LNG facility on Curtis Island.
Regan, 25, said, “I credit the ability to complete my apprenticeship ahead of schedule to the outstanding training and mentorship I received at Origin, as well as the guidance from Golden West Apprenticeships.
“I transitioned to a full-time role with Origin as a multi-skilled operator in June this year, and I couldn’t be prouder.
“Each day, I’m out there inspecting gathering lines, conducting well maintenance, isolating wells and communicating with Origin’s Brisbane Central Control Room to assist their network operations.
“Ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our gas assets at the Peat Gas Field is a big deal, and it’s something I take seriously.
“The opportunity from Origin and Golden West Apprenticeships, along with their invaluable hands-on experience and support, is something I’m grateful for.”
CEO of Golden West Apprenticeships Camille Johnson said, “Regan’s achievements stand as a testament to his dedication and hard work, showcasing the successful careers that can be built through apprentice programs.”
“For three decades, Golden West Apprenticeships has played a crucial role in the Maranoa Region, facilitating the employment of over 7,500 jobseekers and successfully completing over 3,500 Australian Apprenticeships.
“By collaborating with local host employers such as Origin to assist apprentices and trainees through their training programs, we’re committed to securing long-term career opportunities, thereby enhancing the strength of our community’s local workforce.”
Origin General Manager Asset West, Aleta Nicoll said, “At Origin, we’re committed to inspiring and fostering the next wave of energy professionals who will shape Australia’s energy landscape for years to come.
“We aspire for our apprentices and trainees to come out of this program equipped with the skills, expertise, and enthusiasm needed to drive advancement and efficiency in the energy sector.”
