South Burnett Regional Council and Golden West Apprenticeships Joint Project
South Burnett Regional Council, in collaboration with Golden West Apprenticeships, is excited to announce a new initiative aimed at fostering skills and career development in the conservation and ecosystem management sector. This joint project will provide a unique learning opportunity for aspiring conservationists in the South Burnett region.
Golden West Apprenticeships Limited has received funding for the project through the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. This initiative provides skill development, training and job opportunities to unemployed, disengaged or disadvantaged Queenslanders through a suite of targeted skills and training programs.
Council and Golden West Apprenticeships are working together on the Work Skills Traineeships program which is one of six programs that make up the State Government’s initiative. Work Skills Traineeships offers disadvantaged Queenslander’s employment for up to six months on public works, community, hospitality, retails and environmental projects.
The traineeships are structured into two intakes, each lasting 18 weeks and employing 12 trainees. The project commenced on 22 September 2025 and will conclude on 30 June 2026. This setup allows trainees to delve deeply into conservation practices while balancing their academic and practical learning experiences.
Trainees will work towards earning a Certificate I in Conservation and Ecosystem Management. This qualification is recognised for its focus on foundational skills essential for understanding and managing ecosystems effectively.
The South Burnett Regional Council and Golden West Apprenticeships are committed to developing skilled professionals who are ready to meet the challenges of environmental conservation and management. This project is a significant step towards nurturing future leaders in the field of ecosystem management.
“The Crisafulli Government is keeping our promise to deliver a strengthened Skilling Queenslanders for Work program that will change lives, by getting participants ready for a job, rather than just a getting them through a qualification,” said Minister Bates.
“It is another way we are delivering on our promise to reverse a decade of decline and build a pipeline of skilled workers to power Queensland’s industries.
“The joint project with Golden West Apprenticeships and South Burnett Regional Council will deliver targeted training, creating pathways into meaningful employment for trainees in regional Queensland in fields that matter to both the community and the environment.
“This collaboration strengthens our regional workforce, supports environmental resilience, and gives Queenslanders in South Burnett the chance to build skills, jobs and the lifestyle they deserve.”
